A tribute to Brian Stoneman
A tribute to Brian Stoneman
Passionate bird watcher and protector of the local environment, former Güvercinlik/Bodrum resident Brian Stoneman died in Romford, England on on Friday 16 January, 2009
His wife Allyson told close friends that he died peacefully at home after battling lung cancer and emphysema. One of his last messages was ‘Let people in Bodrum know’, not forgetting his friends who though separated by distance, had been following his battle in the hope that they would see him again in Bodrum. He was 62 and had lived in Güvercinlik for 18 years, after retiring early from his career as a casino accounts manager in Bulgaria,Cyprus and Turkey. He took up fulltime his passion for birdwatching, which he carried out until moving back to England last March. He is survived by his wife Allyson whom he met in Bodrum; and a son and a daughter and grandchildren who live in England.
The funeral is to be held on Monday 2nd February at 1.20 pm, and the cremation is at South Essex Crematorium.
Flowers or donations should be sent to Allyson Stoneman (Address and Phone number available on request) Any monies received will be donated to St. Francis Hospice, as she said “They were incredible and although we only had their at-home services for 32 hours they made our time together much easier to cope with.”
A memorial birdwatch is planned for Sunday 1 February at the Tuzla/ Boğazci wetlands at 11:00am to meet at the old building on the causeway. (Bring binoculars, telescopes, cameras and hot drinks, dress warmly)
Please feel welcome.
