Friends, acquaintances and birdwatchers in Bodrum and around Turkey, were deeply saddened to learn that former Güvercinlik/Bodrum resident Brian Stoneman died in Romford, England on Friday 16 January.

Birdy Brian
At Simply Turkey (UK holiday company) we all called him Birdy Brian for so long that I almost forgot that he must have a surname.

By showing me the joys of his brand of birding, Brian has given me a gift I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Brian the Rounders umpire!
Brian is of course remembered by many for his relentless drive to protect the birds of Tuzla Wetlands. But, there's another small group of enthusiasts who remember him for something quite different - as a Rounders umpire!

It's of 'Simon', the first stork that he and Allyson hand reared at their house on the coast near Guvercinlik. I've had it as my desktop background for about
4 years and have no intention of removing it, it's stunning
